TPE is the first Multi-Terabit level submarine cable system linking the U.S. and China directly, can provide capacity of up to 1.28Tb/s initially, with design capacity of up to 5.12Tb/s over a total of 18,000 kilometers, and it is over 60 times the capacity of China US Cable Network (CUCN). TPE is made up of four optical fiber pairs, each pair support 1280Gbit/s by Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) of 10Gbit/s wavelength.

TPE is designed and constructed with state-of-the-art network technology, offering supremely reliable and secure connectivity between China and the U.S. The transmission performance for any point-to-point segment of the System will exceed the performance requirements specified in ITU Recommendation G.828. The topology of TPE is consisted of two separate networks, Intra-Asia Ring and Trans-Pacific Segment.
